Why You'll Love Vegan Chocolate Mousse

If you’re looking for a dessert that’s rich, creamy, and totally indulgent, then this vegan chocolate mousse is a must-try! Not only is it incredibly easy to make, but it’s also a healthier alternative to traditional mousse. The silken tofu provides a smooth and velvety texture, while the dairy-free chocolate and cocoa powder give it that deep, decadent chocolate flavor we all crave. Plus, it’s naturally sweetened with maple syrup, making it a guilt-free treat you can enjoy anytime!

Vegan Chocolate Mousse Ingredients

Vegan chocolate mousse is a delightful dessert that swaps out the traditional heavy cream and eggs for plant-based ingredients. Here’s what goes into it:

  • Silken Tofu: This acts as the creamy base, giving the mousse its silky texture without any dairy.
  • Dairy-Free Chocolate: Provides the rich chocolate flavor. Choose a high-quality dairy-free chocolate for the best results.
  • Vanilla Extract: Adds a touch of warmth and depth to the flavor.
  • Cocoa Powder: Intensifies the chocolatey goodness.
  • Maple Syrup: A natural sweetener that adds just the right amount of sweetness.
  • Salt: Enhances the overall flavor and balances the sweetness.

How to Make Healthy Vegan Mousse

Blend the Tofu: In a high-speed blender or food processor, add the silken tofu and blend until it’s smooth and creamy. This will be the base of your mousse.

Add the Chocolate: Pour in the melted dairy-free chocolate, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, maple syrup, and salt. Blend everything together until it’s well combined and smooth. You might need to scrape down the sides of the blender to ensure everything is mixed properly.

Chill the Mousse: Transfer the mousse to serving bowls or glasses. Cover and refrigerate for at least an hour to let it set and develop its flavors.

Serve:Once chilled, the mousse is ready to serve. You can top it with fresh berries, coconut whipped cream, or shaved chocolate for an extra special touch.

FAQs

Can I freeze mousse? I haven't tried this myself, but I think it would work. I would keep it in an airtight container and then let it defrost in the fridge overnight!

What chocolate is the best?  My go to is semi-sweet chocolate chips, but any kind will work! Just keep in mind, that using something different may change the flavor of the recipe.

Can I use regular tofu instead of silken tofu? No, regular tofu won’t give you the same smooth and creamy texture as silken tofu. It’s best to stick with silken tofu for this recipe.

How long can I store the mousse in the fridge? The mousse can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days. Make sure to cover it well to prevent it from absorbing any odors from the fridge.

Can I use a different sweetener? Yes, you can substitute maple syrup with agave nectar, coconut nectar, or any other liquid sweetener. Adjust the quantity to taste.
