Indulgence takes a new form with these brown butter chocolate chip blondies. Here’s why you’re bound to fall in love:

  • Warm Brown Butter Aroma: The browned butter isn’t just an ingredient; it will literally make your kitchen smell so warm, nutty, and cozy.
  • Perfectly Balanced Sweetness: The blend of light brown sugar and chocolate chips makes for the perfect sweetness.
  • Chewy meets Gooey: Achieving the ideal balance of chewiness and gooeyness, these blondies are a texture lover’s dream come true.
  • Versatile: Whether paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or savored on its own, these blondies adapt to any mood or occasion.

Expert Baking Tips

  • Mastering Brown Butter: Keep a close eye while browning the butter; once it achieves a golden hue with a nutty aroma, promptly remove it from heat to prevent burning. Trust me, I have definitely burned it before. Whoops.
  • Even Distribution of Chocolate Chips: For a well-balanced bite, evenly distribute the chopped chocolate chips throughout the batter. It is never fun when its lopsided and one side is chocolate-less.
  • Sea Salt Sprinkle Technique: If opting for sea salt flakes, a light, even sprinkle on top before baking enhances both the flavor and visual appeal.

Storage and Freezing

  • Room Temperature Bliss: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, maintaining that irresistible chewiness.
  • Freeze for Future Joy: Blondies freeze exceptionally well. Wrap individual pieces in parchment paper and place them in a sealed bag for longer storage. Thaw at room temperature for a quick treat.

FAQs

1. Can I use salted butter instead of unsalted for browning?

Absolutely! Using salted butter will add a subtle savory element to the blondies. Adjust the additional salt in the recipe accordingly based on your taste preferences.

2. Can I use other types of sugar in place of light brown sugar?

While light brown sugar contributes to the blondies’ distinct flavor, you can experiment with alternatives like coconut sugar or muscovado sugar for a nuanced sweetness.

3. How do I know when the brown butter is ready?

Watch for a golden-brown color and a nutty fragrance. Be cautious not to overbrown, as this can lead to a burnt taste. Remove from heat as soon as you achieve that inviting aroma.

4. Can I freeze these blondies with sea salt flakes?

Certainly! The sea salt flakes won’t lose their charm when frozen. Wrap the blondies well before freezing to preserve their texture and flavor.

5. Can I mix different types of chocolate chips?

Absolutely! Combining semi-sweet and dark chocolate chips adds complexity to the flavor. Feel free to customize the chocolate chip mix based on your preferences.

6. How do I prevent the blondies from becoming too cakey?

Avoid overmixing the batter once you add the dry ingredients. This helps maintain the chewy and gooey texture that makes these blondies irresistible.

7. Can I use gluten-free flour for a wheat-free option?

Certainly! Many gluten-free flour blends work well as a substitute. Ensure it includes a binder like xanthan gum to maintain the blondies’ structure.

8. Can I skip the sea salt flakes?

Absolutely. While sea salt enhances the flavor, it’s optional. If you prefer a purely sweet profile, feel free to omit the sea salt flakes.

9. How do I store leftover blondies?

Store them in an airtight container at room temperature for optimal freshness. If you plan to keep them longer, freezing is an excellent option.

10. Can I reheat frozen blondies?

Yes, you can. Simply thaw the frozen blondies at room temperature, or for a warm, gooey experience, reheat them in the oven at a low temperature.

Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Blondies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 3/4 cup  light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract Magnolia star is the brand I used
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Prepare the Brown Butter: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Continue cooking, swirling the pan occasionally until the butter turns golden brown and develops a nutty aroma (about 5-7 minutes). Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Mix the Batter: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the brown sugar and slightly cooled brown butter until well combined. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
  • Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  • Add Chocolate Chips:** Gently fold in the chocolate chips into the batter until evenly distributed.
  • Bake the Blondies: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Sprinkle a few sea salt flakes over the top if desired. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove the blondies from the oven and allow them to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. Cut into squares or rectangles and serve.
