Ingredients
- A can of Chickpeas
- Tahini
- extra virgin olive oil
- lemon juice (never skip this! it gives a nice depth of flavor)
- cumin
- a clove of garlic
- baby spinach
- Avocado
- Water if needed (this helps with loosening the consistency of the mixture)
How to Make Avocado Hummus
You will either need a food processor or a blender. I use my food processor which allows for a creamy texture.
To make your hummus, put all of your food in the food processor. Pulse mixture until you get a smooth dip. This can take up to 5 minutes. Depending on how smooth you want it, you can add a tbsp of water slowly to get the consistency you want!
Add to a bowl, and spread it out using a spatula. Drizzle with a little bit of extra virgin olive oil, and garnish with sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, or whatever you have available.
What to Serve This Hummus With
- with crackers
- on a sandwich
- veggie sticks (cucumbers, celery, carrots)
- Pita bread or sour dough
Can I make Avocado Hummus Without Tahini or Olive Oil?
You can leave these out if you do not have Tahini. I would try substituting it with cashew butter instead! Olive oil is rather important but add some water if the mixture is too thick!
How to Store Avocado Hummus
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. I do not recommend freezing this hummus.
The avocado hummus is best made and eaten right away! If you want to store it then cover it with plastic wrap directly against the mixture! Press the plastic wrap into it with your fingers to prevent any air from getting into it!
Remember, just like apples and guacamole the top part of avo hummus with turn brown when exposed to the air for too long! The reason is that there’s an enzyme in the avocado that reacts to oxygen and turns the color to brown
This Avocado Hummus is perfect for picnics, a gathering at your house, or simple a snack at home!
