Air Fryer Chocolate Chip Cookies Ingredients

  • Butter: A good cookie recipe always starts with butter, and we recommend using unsalted butter that has been softened at room temperature. This will make it easier to cream with the sugars and create a smooth texture.
  • Sugar: We use a combination of granulated sugar and brown sugar in this recipe. The granulated sugar helps to create a crispy exterior, while the brown sugar adds a chewy texture and enhances the flavor with its molasses notes.
  • Egg: One large egg is all you need to bind the dough together and provide some moisture to the cookies.
  • Vanilla: A splash of vanilla extract adds a warm, comforting flavor to the cookies. I used this brand.
  • All-purpose flour: This is the base of the cookie dough and provides structure to the cookies. Make sure to measure your flour accurately by spooning it into a measuring cup and leveling it off with a knife.
  • Salt: A pinch of salt enhances the sweetness of the cookies and balances out the flavors.
  • Baking soda: This helps the cookies to rise slightly and creates a slightly more tender texture.
  • Chocolate chips: I recommend using high-quality chocolate chips that are at least 60% cocoa solids for the best flavor. You can also use chopped chocolate if you prefer.

How to Make Air Fryer Chocolate Chip Cookies

Now that we’ve gone through the ingredients, let’s get to the fun part – making the cookies!

To start, cream the butter and sugars together until light and fluffy. This should take about 2-3 minutes of mixing with a hand mixer or stand mixer. Add the egg and vanilla and mix until well combined.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking soda. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix the dough, as this can lead to tough cookies. Fold in the chocolate chips and you’re ready to move onto the next step!

Preheat your air fryer to 300F for 2-3 minutes. Scoop the dough into balls using a cookie scoop and place them on a greased air fryer tray or parchment paper. Flatten the cookies slightly with your fingers or the back of a spoon, and place the tray in the preheated air fryer.

Bake the cookies for 15 minutes, rotating the tray after 10 minutes to ensure even cooking. Once done, remove the tray from the air fryer and let the cookies cool on the tray for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

FAQs

Can I make these cookies in a traditional oven?

Yes, you can! Preheat your oven to 350F and bake the cookies on a greased baking sheet for 12-15 minutes.

Can I use salted butter instead of unsalted butter?

I recommend using unsalted butter in this recipe to control the amount of salt in the cookies. If you only have salted butter, you can use it, but reduce the amount of added salt in the recipe to 1/8 teaspoon.

Can I use a different type of flour, like whole wheat flour or almond flour?

All-purpose flour works best in this recipe for the right texture and structure, but you can experiment with other flours if you like. Keep in mind that the texture and flavor of the cookies will be different.

How long do these cookies stay fresh?

These cookies will stay fresh in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. You can also freeze the cookies for up to 2 months.

Can I double or triple the recipe to make more cookies?

Yes, you can! Just make sure to adjust the cooking time and use multiple batches in the air fryer or traditional oven to avoid overcrowding.

Can I use different types of chocolate, like milk chocolate or white chocolate?

Yes, you can! Feel free to use any type of chocolate you like in this recipe. Just keep in mind that the flavor and sweetness of the cookies may be different depending on the type of chocolate you use.
