Buttermilk Pancakes Ingredients

  • All purpose flour: This is the main structure-providing ingredient in the pancakes. It is a type of wheat flour that is made from a blend of different wheat varieties and has a moderate protein content.
  • Baking powder: This is a leavening agent that helps the pancakes rise and become fluffy. It is a combination of baking soda, an acid, and a starch.
  • Baking soda: This is another leavening agent that helps the pancakes rise. It is an alkaline substance that reacts with the acidic buttermilk to create carbon dioxide, which helps the pancakes puff up.
  • Sugar: This provides some sweetness to the pancakes and helps to brown them as they cook.
  • Eggs: This provides structure and richness to the pancakes. It also helps to bind the ingredients together.
  • Buttermilk: This is the main liquid in the pancakes and provides tanginess and flavor. It also reacts with the baking soda to create the carbon dioxide that helps the pancakes rise.
  • Vanilla extract: This adds a sweet, floral flavor to the pancakes.
  • Nonstick cooking spray or additional melted butter: This is used to grease the pan to prevent the pancakes from sticking.
