Are you someone who loves snacks that are reminiscent of your childhood or someone who likes variety?
I am someone who gets fixated on a certain breakfast or lunch food for WEEKS at a time until I’m finally sick of it and don’t want to see it for a year! However, when it comes to snacking, I def like to mix it up!
One of the best ways to mix things up is a “build your own trail mix” time! This is healthy snacking made FUN and EASY!
Tips for the Best Trail Mix
A few things I like to keep in mind: Pick your categories. I like to make sure I have some nuts or seeds, something fun, dried fruit and/or granola!!
Bag your trail mix for easy snacking later. I like to use these reusable bags! This Classic Trail Mix is also great to bring with you when you travel.
Nuts and Seeds
Nuts and seeds are pretty much the backbones of any good trail mix! They help add a few healthy fats and plant-based protein, both of which are great for keeping you full for longer.
The options are basically endless but here are a few you can choose from:
- Peanuts – I love the lightly salted ones
- cashews
- almonds – sliced, whole, roasted, etc.
- pecans
- pistachios
- sunflower seeds
- pumpkin seeds – LOVE these from Amazon
Dried Fruit
There are soo many dried fruit options, which can make your trail mix recipe super fun! Try experimenting a little!
- unsweetened coconut flakes
- raisins
- dried cranberries
- dried apricots
- dates
- dried blueberries
- dried mangos
Something Fun
Something sweet, salty, or crunchy is the perfect fun treat to balance out the nuts and seeds.
A few favorites:
- m&ms
- popcorn
- mini marshmallows
- chocolate morsels
- chocolate or vanilla covered raisins
- chocolate covered almonds
